Some 1986 and 1987 S/T Trucks with 2.8L V-6 engines and Federal Emissions may exhibit a blue/white smoke from the tailpipe after an extended idle.
To repair this condition, check the truck for loss of coolant or excessive use of oil and repair, if necessary.
If engine checks O.K. (no oil or coolant loss) , replace the PROM using the chart on the back of this Bulletin for application and part numbers. Use the service procedure in Section 6E-Engine Emissions and Driveability of the appropriate service manual.
Use applicable labor time and operation numbers.
(For 2.8L 1986/87 Federal Emissions applications only.)
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
