HVAC SYS. DOES NOT SUPPLY HEAT OR COOLING

SUBJECT: HVAC SYSTEM DOES NOT SUPPLY HEAT OR COOLING WHEN COMMANDED OR EXTENDED CHARGE TIME FOR THE PROPULSION BATTERIES (REPLACE THE HVAC REVERSING VALVE)

MODELS: 1997 CHEVROLET ELECTRIC POWERED S TRUCKS BUILT PRIOR TO VIN V8190295

CONDITION:

SOME OWNERS OF EARLY PRODUCTION S-10 ELECTRIC POWERED TRUCKS MAY REPORT THAT WHEN HVAC SYSTEM HEAT IS SELECTED, COOL AIR IS DELIVERED OR, WHEN AIR CONDITIONING IS SELECTED THE HVAC SYSTEM DELIVERS EITHER INSUFFICIENT COOLING OR HEAT. IN ADDITION, AN OWNER MAY ALSO REPORT EXTENDED CHARGING TIMES FOR THE PROPULSION BATTERIES.

CAUSE:

THE REVERSING VALVE IN THE HVAC SYSTEM MAY BE MALFUNCTIONING.

CORRECTION:

FOLLOW THE STRATEGY BASED DIAGNOSTIC STEPS FOR THE OWNER'S REPORTED SYMPTOMS. IF DIAGNOSIS DOES NOT REVEAL A CAUSE, REPLACE THE HVAC SYSTEM REVERSING VALVE, P/N 27003626, FOLLOWING THE PROCEDURE DESCRIBED IN THE SERVICE MANUAL.

IMPORTANT: WHEN RECHARGING THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM, TO PREVENT OVERCHARGE USE ONLY 2 LB. OF R-134A REFRIGERANT.
