INSUFFICIENT CHARG./37 AMP/AL STATOR AND ROTOR REPLACEMENT

Model and Year: 1982-83 "S/T" Trucks

With heavy accessory loads and low ambient temperatures, some customers may comment about dim headlights, voltmeter readings in the red region and batteries being discharged on subject vehicles with the 37 amp alternator.

To reduce these potential conditions, it is not necessary to replace the entire alternator. By changing the stator and rotor with the part numbers listed below, the alternator output will be that of a 63 amp alternator. If internal components are changed, it should be noted on the outside housing of the alternator should the alternator need repair in the future.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
