Brake Warning Indicator System Check

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Install the scan tool.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  4. Select display DTC function with the scan tool.
  5. Check for any stored ABS DTCs related to Brake Warning Indicator operation.

No DTCs are stored in memory or current status.

    • DTC is stored in memory or current status (refer to appropriate DTC table).
    • Scan Tool Does Not Communicate w/Class 2 Data Line.

  1. Turn ignition to the OFF position.
  2. Remove the scan tool from the diagnostic link connector.
  3. Release the parking brake.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (engine OFF).

Brake warning indicator remains OFF.

    • Brake Warning Indicator Always On.
    • Brake Warning Indicator Inoperative (with Low Brake Fluid).

  1. Start vehicle and allow engine to idle in PARK.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

Brake Warning Indicator remains OFF when ignition switch is in ON or START positions.

    • Brake Warning Indicator Always On.
    • Brake Warning Indicator Inoperative (with Low Brake Fluid).

  1. Return the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2. Set the parking brake.
  3. Release the parking brake.

Brake Warning Indicator remains ON only when parking brake is set.

    • Brake Warning Indicator Always On.
    • Brake Warning Indicator Inoperative (with Parking Brake Applied).
