- Turn OFF the engine.
- Wipe dry the complete power steering system, which includes the
following components:
- Measure the oil level in the pump reservoir. Adjust the oil level
as directed.
Refer to
Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid
.
- Start the engine.
Important: Do not hold the wheel against the stops or damage to the pump may occur.
- Turn the steering wheel from stop to stop several times.
- Inspect
the following areas for leaks:
• | The return tube fitting |
1. | Tighten the hose clamp if the hose clamp is loose. |
2. | Replace the fitting if the fitting is deformed. |
3. | Apply Loctite® 75559 solvent or an equivalent and Loctite® 290
adhesive or an equivalent to the tube-housing connection. |
Follow the manufacturer's directions.
• | The pressure hose fitting |
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
