  1. Ensure that the transmission linkage is properly adjusted. Refer to Transmission Linkage Adjustment in Transmission.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to RUN .
  3. Remove the B/U LP fuse from the underhood fuse block

Is the BTSI solenoid still engaged?

Go to Step 2

Locate and repair short to power in CKT 275 (LT GRN), CKT 584 (LT GRN/BLK), and/or CKT 1135 (DRK GRN/BLK) and reinstall fuse.

Is repair complete?

--

System OK

--

Connect a test lamp between ground and Connector CI, terminal B of the park/neutral position (PNP) and backup lamp switch.

Place the gear selector in each of the following positions:

    • REVERSE
    • DRIVE
    • 3
    • 2
    • 1

Does the test lamp light?

--

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 5

Replace the park/neutral position (PNP) and backup lamp switch.

Is the repair complete?

--

System OK

--

  1. Inspect for mechanical binding.
  2. Adjust the brake transmission shift interlock (BTSI) solenoid and/or the park lock solenoid.

Is the BTSI solenoid still engaged?

--

Go to Step 6

System OK

Replace the BTSI solenoid and/or the park lock solenoid as applicable.

Is the repair complete?

--

System OK
