  1. Test for powertrain diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). Refer to Powertrain OBD System Check.

The compass heading is blank.

  1. Excessive magnetism in or near the vehicle may cause the compass display to turn blank. Drive the vehicle to an area that is free from large metal objects in order to distinguish between vehicle magnetics and surrounding magnetics.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position and then to the ON position in order to reset the compass.
  3. If the compass display turns blank within 20 seconds after the reset of power, the vehicle magnetism is too high. Degauss the vehicle. Refer to Compass Display Operation.

The compass heading varies with the sunroof position.

Demagnetize the sunroof assembly. Refer to Compass Display Operation.

The compass does not calibrate or does not display all of the headings.

  1. Test for diagnostic trouble codes. Refer to DIC Self Check.
