Verify that the engine has proper oil pressure using an external oil pressure gauge.

Is engine oil pressure present?

--

  1. Disconnect the oil pressure gauge sensor.
  2. Connect the RED lead of a J 33431-C to the oil pressure gauge sensor connector CKT 331 (TAN/WHT) cavity A and the other lead to ground.
  3. Turn the ignition switch in the RUN position.
  4. Adjust the resistance dial to 0 ohms.
  5. The oil gauge should indicate low pressure around 0 ohms.

  6. Adjust the resistance dial to 90 ohms.
  7. The oil gauge should indicate high pressure around 80.

Does the oil gauge indicate the correctly readings?

Replace the oil pressure gauge sensor.

Inspect for an open or short to ground in CKT 331 (TAN/WHT) between the oil pressure gauge sensor connector and the instrument cluster.

Did you find an open or short to ground?

Go to Step 6

Repair the open or short to ground in CKT 331 (TAN/WHT) between the oil pressure gauge sensor connector and the instrument cluster.

Is the repair complete?
