J 41352 Steering Column Holding Fixture


    Object Number: 421394  Size: SH
  1. Install the upper shroud (1) onto the steering column.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Screw the 2 TORX® head screws (2) into the upper shroud (1).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 1.5 N·m (13 lb in).

  5. Install the lower shroud onto the upper shroud in the following way:
  6. 3.1. Match the tab slots on the lower shroud with the locking tabs on the upper shroud.
    3.2. Tilt the lower shroud up.
    3.3. Slide the lower shroud forward until the locking tabs snap into the tab slots.

  7. Install the 2 pan head tapping screws (3) into the lower shroud (1).
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 3.5 N·m (31 lb in).

  9. Install the 3 TORX® head screws (2) into the lower shroud (1).
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 1.5 N·m (13 lb in).

  11. Insert the key into the lock cylinder.

    Caution: Improper routing of the wire harness assembly may damage the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil. This may result in a malfunction of the coil, which may cause personal injury.

  13. Remove the steering column from J 41352 .
  14. Remove J 41352 from the vise.
  15. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .
  16. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  17. Install the tilt lever.
  18. Enable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
