J 41352 Steering Column Holding Fixture


    Object Number: 415301  Size: SH

    Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  1. Disable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the tilt lever.
  3. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  4. Remove the steering colunm. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .
  5. Put J 41352 into a vise.
  6. Secure the steering column to J 41352 .
  7. Inspect the steering column for accident damage. Refer to Steering Column Accident Damage Inspection - Off Vehicle .
  8. Put the lock cylinder into the LOCK position.
  9. Remove the key.
  10. Rotate the steering shaft to the 12 o'clock position. You will hear the lock bolt lock the steering column.

  12. Remove the 3 TORX® head screws (2) from the lower shroud (1).
  13. Remove the 2 pan head tapping screws (3) from the lower shroud (1).

  14. Object Number: 328807  Size: SH
  15. Remove the lower shroud from the upper shroud in the following way:
  16. 13.1. Tilt the lower shroud down.
    13.2. Slide the lower shroud backward in order to disengage the locking tabs.

  17. Remove the 2 TORX® head screws (2) from the upper shroud (1).
  18. Remove the upper shroud (1) from the steering column.
