DRIVEABILITY COMPLAINTS CAUSED BY EGR VALVE DAMAGE

Model and Year: 1987 CAVALIER WITH 2.0L (VIN CODE 1) ENGINE

Vehicle driveability symptoms of difficult starting, poor idle, stalling, sag off idle, low-speed surge, low block learn memory (BLM) and closed loop integrator (CLI) values, or idle RPM oscillations of 200-300 RPM can be caused by EGR valve damage.

To verify that the above symptoms are EGR valve damage related look for:

1. Obvious tilt of the EGR valve's vertical axis 2. Erratic EGR pintle/stem movement 3. No change in symptoms with disconnected EGR valve vacuum.

If observed, replace with the appropriate EGR valve to repair the problem.
