Transmission Mount Replacement Front

Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 28467-360 Engine Support Fixture

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  2. Object Number: 104328  Size: SH
  3. Install the J 28467-360 to the transmission. Raise the transmission enough in order to unload the transmission mounts.
  4. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  5. Remove the left front wheel and tire assembly. Refer to Wheel Removal in Tires and Wheels.
  6. Remove the left splash shield.

  8. Remove the pipe expansion bolt from the transmission support assembly.

  9. Object Number: 104231  Size: SH
  10. Remove the transmission mount to body bolts.
  11. Lower the engine/transmission assembly just enough to be able to remove the transmission mount from the bracket.

  12. Object Number: 104235  Size: SH
  13. Remove the transmission mount.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 104235  Size: SH
  1. Install the transmission mount to the transmission bracket. Do not tighten the bracket until the mount is fastened to the body.
  2. Raise the engine and the transmission assembly.

  3. Object Number: 104231  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the transmission mount to body bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 66 N·m (49 lb ft).

  6. Install the pipe expansion bolt to the transmission support assembly.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten to bolt to 55 N·m (41 lb ft).

  8. Install the left splash shield.
  9. Install the left front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Wheel Installation in Tires and Wheels.

  11. Remove the engine support fixture.
  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.

Transmission Mount Replacement Rear

Removal Procedure

Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the air intake duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Intake Duct Replacement in Engine Controls-2.2L.
  3. Remove the TV cable, if equipped. Refer to Automatic Transmission Throttle Valve Cable Replacement .
  4. Remove the power brake booster line.
  5. Remove the hose.

  7. Install the J 28467-360 .
  8. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  9. Remove the engine mount strut.
  10. Remove the left front tire and the wheel assembly. Refer to Wheel Removal in Tires and Wheels.
  11. Remove the left splash shield.
  12. Remove the crossmember.
  13. Remove the left front ABS wheel speed sensor connector.
  14. Remove the harness from the suspension support.
  15. Remove the left front ball joint. Refer to Lower Control Arm Ball Joint Replacement in Front Suspension.
  16. Remove the left stabilizer bushing nuts. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Replacement in Front Suspension.
  17. Remove the stabilizer shaft from the left lower control arm. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Replacement in Front Suspension.
  18. Remove the left suspension support. Refer to Front Suspension Crossmember Replacement in Front Suspension.
  19. Remove the left side drive axle from the transmission. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement in Wheel Drive Shafts.
  20. Remove the transmission cooler pipes. Plug in order to prevent leakage. Refer to Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Pipes Replacement .
  21. Remove the P/S lines from the P/S gear. Plug in order to prevent leakage.

  23. Remove the transmission mount to body bolts.

  24. Object Number: 104239  Size: SH
  25. Remove the pipe expansion bolt from the transmission support assembly.
  26. Lower the engine and the transmission assembly just enough to be able to remove the transmission support assembly and the mount assembly.

  27. Object Number: 104238  Size: SH
  28. Remove the transmission mount from the transmission support assembly.

  29. Object Number: 104237  Size: SH
  30. Remove the transmission support assembly bolts.

  31. Object Number: 104238  Size: SH
  32. Remove the transmission support assembly.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the transmission support assembly into the vehicle.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.   3. Install the transmission support assembly bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 75 N·m (55 lb ft).

  5. Install the transmission mount to the transmission support assembly.
  6. Raise the engine and the transmission assembly.

  7. Object Number: 104231  Size: SH
  8. Install the transmission mount to body bolts.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 66 N·m (49 lb ft).

  10. Install the transmission pipe expansion bolt to the transmission support assembly.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 55 N·m (41 lb ft).

  12. Install the P/S lines to the P/S gear.
  13. Install the transmission cooler lines. Refer to Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Pipes Replacement .
  14. Install the left drive axle to the transmission. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement in Wheel Drive Shafts.
  15. Install the left suspension support. Refer to Front Suspension Crossmember Replacement in Front Suspension.
  16. Install the stabilizer shaft to the left lower control arm. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Replacement in Front Suspension.
  17. Install the left stabilizer bushing nuts. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Replacement in Front Suspension.
  18. Install the left front ball joint. Refer to Lower Control Arm Ball Joint Replacement in Front Suspension.
  19. Route and connect the left front ABS wheel speed sensor.
  20. Install the crossmember.
  21. Install the left splash shield.
  22. Install the left front tire and the wheel assembly. Refer to Wheel Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  23. Install the engine mount strut.
  24. Lower the vehicle.

  26. Remove the engine support fixture.
  27. Install the power brake booster line.
  28. Install the hose.
  29. Install the TV cable, if equipped. Refer to Automatic Transmission Throttle Valve Cable Replacement .
  30. Install the air intake duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-2.2L.
  31. Connect the negative battery cable.
  32. Adjust the P/S oil level. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid in Power Steering System.
  33. Adjust the TV cable. Refer to Automatic Transmission Throttle Valve Cable Adjustment .
  34. Inspect the oil level.
  35. Inspect the suspension alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Specifications in Wheel Alignment.
  36. Inspect the transmission for oil leaks.
