The brake transmission shift interlock (BTSI) is a park lock system that prevents the vehicle's transaxle from shifting out of PARK unless the brake pedal is fully depressed. When you press the brake pedal, the BTSI electromagnet releases the lock pawl, enabling the following events to occur:
• | The shift lever will move. |
• | The shift cable will operate. |
If the BTSI system requires service, you may override the BTSI by turning the ignition lock to OFF. Turning the ignition lock to OFF removes the battery voltage from the electromagnet and leaves the system deenergized.
