Important: The coil assembly becomes misaligned under the following conditions:
• | The steering column separates from the steering gear. |
• | The steering column rotates. |
• | The centering spring pushes down, allowing the hub to rotate while
you remove the coil from the steering column. |
- In the event that the coil un-centers, ensure that the steering wheel
shaft alignment mark (8) is in the 12 o'clock position.
- Hold the coil assembly with the clear bottom up in order to see
the bottom of the coil.
Important: The following different styles of coils exist:
• | A coil that rotates clockwise |
• | A coil that rotates counterclockwise |
- While holding the coil assembly, depress the spring lock in order to
rotate the hub (6 or 7) in the direction of the arrow
until the hub stops.
- Ensure that the coil ribbon is firmly wound up against the center
hub.
- Rotate the coil hub (6 or 7) in the opposite
direction approximately 2.75 turns in order to align the cancelling
cam assembly.
- Release the spring lock between the locking tabs (1 or 4)
adjacent to the arrow.
- Seat the SIR coil tab in the bracket recess on the steering column
at the 6 o'clock position.
