The keyless entry system includes the following components:
• | A hand-held radio transmitter |
• | The remote control door lock receiver |
The transmitter sends a digitally encoded radio signal to the module when you push a button. The transmitter range is approximately 7 m (23 ft). You may use the the transmitter in order to control the following circuits:
• | The illuminated entry lamps |
• | The following door locks: |
- | All doors |
- | The driver's door only |
• | The luggage compartment lid release |
The antenna/receiver is integrated within the remote control door lock receiver (RFA).
The remote control door lock receiver grounds the interior lamps for approximately 40 seconds under either of the following conditions:
• | When the remote control door lock receiver receives a door unlock signal |
• | Until the ignition switch is turned to the RUN position |
When you press the transmitter unlock button once, the remote control door lock receiver output turns on at connector C1 terminal A.
When you press the transmitter unlock button once, the driver's door unlocks. The remote control door lock receiver receives the transmitted signal. The receiver activates the receiver output at connector C1 terminal E. This applies battery voltage directly to the left front door lock motor. The lock motor is grounded through the door lock relay.
When you press the transmitter unlock button twice within 5 seconds, the remote control door lock receiver activates the receiver output at connector C1 terminal A and terminal B. The unlock relay in the door lock relay assembly energizes. The energizing of the unlock relay causes the passenger doors to unlock.
When you press the lock button, the remote control door lock receiver activates the receiver output at connector C1 terminal R. The lock relay in the door lock relay assembly energizes. The energizing of the unlock relay causes the doors to lock. The driver's door is grounded through the remote control door lock receiver when locking.
A rolling code is incorporated into the remote control door lock receiver. The rolling code protects the transmitter signal from the following activities:
• | Being recorded |
• | Being retransmitted to unlock the doors |
Each time the transmitter is used, the remote control door lock receiver moves the rolling code to the next code. If the transmitter is activated outside the range of the remote control door lock receiver more than 256 times, the transmitter will no longer synchronize with the receiver's rolling code. The transmitter will not function until the transmitter has been resynchronized with the remote control door lock receiver. In order to resynchronize the receiver and the transmitter, the operator must hold both the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons for approximately 10 seconds while within the receiver's signal reception range. This cycles the locks in order to notify the operator that the system is both operational and functioning properly.
When you press the trunk release button on the transmitter, battery voltage is applied to the luggage compartment lid release solenoid. The solenoid activates the trunk release. The remote control door lock receiver is not able to activate the solenoid when the ignition switch is not in the OFF position.
