Important: If you do not adjust the switches properly, the cruise control system may not work properly.

You may not adjust the release switch assembly and the stoplamp switch assembly until after you assemble the brake booster pushrod to the brake pedal assembly. Adjust the cruise control release switch and the stoplamp switch together. For more information about the stoplamp switch adjustment, refer to Stop Lamp Switch Adjustment in Hydraulic Brakes.

  1. Press the brake pedal assembly. Insert the switch assembly and stoplamp switch assembly into the retainers until fully seated.
  2. Slowly release the brake pedal assembly back to its fully retracted position. The release switch assembly will move within its retainers to the "adjusted" position.

Use the following brake pedal assembly travel distances to check for properly adjusted release and stoplamp switch assemblies:

    • Release switch assembly and stoplamp switch assembly contacts must be open at 3.5 to 12.5 mm (1/8 to ½ in) brake pedal assembly travel. Take the measurement at the centerline of the brake pedal assembly pad.
    • Nominal actuation of the stoplamp switch assembly contacts is about 4.5 mm (3/16 in) after the cruise control switch assembly contacts close.
