Go to Step 2

Repair or replace the worn or damaged drive axle joint. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Outer Joint and Boot Replacement or Wheel Drive Shaft Inner Joint and Boot Replacement in Wheel Drive Shafts.

Has the knock disappeared?

--

System OK

Go to Step 3

1. Remove the transaxle assembly. Refer to Transmission Replacement .
2. Check for a worn side gear or pinion gear bores in the differential case.

Is the counterbore OK?

--

System OK

Go to Step 4

Repair or replace the worn differential case. Refer to Differential Case Disassemble in the MJ1/MK7 Section of the Transmission Unit Repair Manual.

Has the knock disappeared?

--

System OK
