Important: A short to ground will cause a open fuse(s). Before performing this diagnostic procedure, inspect the fuse(s) for an open.

Was the Radio/Audio Diagnostic System Check performed?

  1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist with the suspension safely supported at ride height.
  2. Disconnect the radio connectors.
  3. Use the J 35616 in order to connect the J 39200 to the radio connector C1 cavities  (CKT 817) and 5 (CKT 350). Red to 16, Black to 5.
  4. Set the J 39200 to measure DC Volts.
  5. Push the Hz button 1 time on the J 39200 (Hz should be displayed on the right side of the J 39200 screen).
  6. Start the vehicle.
  7. Depress the brake pedal.
  8. Put the vehicle in forward gear.
  9. Release the pressure on the brake pedal.
  10. Accelerate the vehicle to maintain a constant speed of 40 kph (25 mph).
  11. Inspect the value on displayed on the J 39200

Is the value within the specified range?

25-30 Hz

Go to Step 3

  1. Inspect for proper terminal contact at the receiver.
  2. Replace the receiver if there is proper terminal contact at the receiver. Refer to Radio Replacement .

Repair the open or high resistance in CKT 817 between the radio connector C1 terminal 16 and S221.

Is the repair complete?

Repair the terminal. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Replace the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement .
