Important: A short to ground will cause a open fuse(s). Before performing this diagnostic procedure, inspect the fuse(s) for an open.

  1. Disable the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Disconnect the inflator module from the steering wheel.
  2. Turn the parklamps on.
  3. Use the test lamp in order to probe CKT 8 between the steering wheel controls connector terminal B and ground.

Does the test lamp light?

  1. Disconnect the steering wheel controls.
  2. Use the J 39200 in order to measure the resistance in CKT 8 between the steering wheel controls connector terminal B and terminal D.

Is the measured resistance within the specified range?

0-4 ohms

Go to Step 3

  1. Disconnect the SIR coil assembly connector.
  2. Use the J 39200 in order to measure the resistance in CKT 350 between the steering wheel controls connector terminal D and the SIR coil assembly connector terminal D.

Is the measured resistance within the specified range?

0-2 ohms

Go to Step 4

Use the J 39200 in order to measure the resistance in CKT 350 between the SIR coil assembly connector terminal D and ground.

Is the measured resistance within the specified range?

0-2 ohms

System OK

Go to Step 5

Repair the open circuit condition in CKT 350 between the SIR coil assembly harness connector terminal D and ground. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

  1. Disconnect the steering wheel controls.
  2. Use the testlamp in order to backprobe CKT 8 between the steering wheel controls connector terminal B and ground.

Does the test lamp light?

--

Go to Step 11

  1. Disconnect the SIR coil assembly connector.
  2. Use the testlamp in order to backprobe CKT 8 between the SIR coil assembly connector terminal B and ground.

Does the test lamp light?

--

Go to Step 8

Replace the SIR coil assembly. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement in SIR.

Does the test lamp light?

--

System OK

  1. Disconnect the inline connector C275.
  2. Use the testlamp in order to backprobe CKT 8 between the inline C275, inline fuse B side, connector terminal 7 and ground.

Does the test lamp light?

--

Repair the open circuit condition in CKT 8 between the SIR coil assembly connector terminal B and the inline C275, connector terminal 7. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems

Is the repair complete?

Use the J 39200 in order to measure the resistance in CKT 8 between the steering wheel controls connector terminal B and ground.

Does the measured resistance equal the specified range?

Infinite

Go to Step 12

Replace the bulbs in the steering wheel controls.
