Important: A short to ground will cause an open fuse(s). Before performing this diagnostic procedure, inspect the fuse(s) for an open.

  1. Disconnect the heater-A/C and rear defogger control assembly connector C1.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  3. Connect the test lamp between the heater-A/C and rear defogger control assembly harness connector C1 terminal B and ground.

Does the test lamp light?

Connect the test lamp between the heater-A/C and rear defogger control assembly harness connector C1 terminal H and B.

Does the test lamp light?

--

Go to Step 4

Repair the open in CKT 41 between the fuse block and the heater-A/C and rear defogger control assembly. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

--

Go to Defogger System Check

Connect the test lamp between the heater-A/C and rear defogger control assembly harness connector C1 terminal A and H.

Does the test lamp light?

--

Go to Step  6

Repair the open in CKT 150 between the heater-A/C and rear defogger control assembly and ground G204. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

--

Go to Defogger System Check

  1. Reconnect the heater-A/C and rear defogger control assembly connector C1.
  2. Use the test lamp in order to backprobe the heater-A/C and rear defogger control assembly connector C1 between terminal D and ground.
  3. Turn the defogger switch to the ON position.

Does the test lamp light?

--

Go to Step  8

Repair the open in CKT 1340 between the fuse block and the heater-A/C and rear defogger control assembly. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

--

Go to Defogger System Check

  1. Disconnect the rear defogger grid connectors.
  2. Connect the test lamp between the rear defogger grid harness connector C1 and ground.

Does the test lamp light?

--

Go to Step  10

Replace the heater-A/C and rear defogger control assembly. Refer to Control Assembly Replacement in HVAC Systems-Manual.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Defogger System Check

Connect the test lamp between the rear defogger grid harness connector C2 terminal A and battery positive.

Does the test lamp light?

--

Go to Step  12

Repair the open in CKT 293 between the heater-A/C and rear defogger control assembly and the rear defogger grid. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Defogger System Check

Repair the open in the rear defogger grid. Refer to Grid Line Repair .

Repair the open in CKT 250 between the rear defogger grid and ground G302. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
