  1. Connect a J 39200 DMM from the positive (+) battery terminal to the negative (-) battery terminal.
  2. Measure the voltage.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  4. Connect the J 39200 DMM from the ALT/START fuse, cavity L 8 to ground.
  5. Measure the voltage.
  6. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

Was the voltage at the ALT/START fuse equal to the battery voltage?

  1. Disconnect the generator connector.
  2. Connect a J 39200 DMM from the generator connector, cavity S to ground. Refer to Using Connector Test Adapters in Wiring Systems.
  3. Measure the voltage.

Is the voltage equal to the specified value?

B+

Go to Step 7

7

Locate and repair the open or high-resistance connection in CKT 2 (RED) between the starter solenoid B terminal and the generator S terminal.

Caution: Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.
