In-Line Fuel Filter Replacement Except Cartridge Type
Removal Procedure
Important: If the in-line filter is plugged, the fuel tank should be inspected
internally and cleaned if necessary.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
- Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to
Fuel Pressure Relief
in Engine Controls.
- Disconnect the fuel feed pipes (1), (6) at the
filter (3).
- Remove the in-line fuel filter clamp attaching hardware (5).
- Remove the clamp from the filter.
Installation Procedure
- Remove the protective caps from the new filter.
- Install the clamp (5) to the filter.
- Install the in-line filter clamp attaching hardware.
Install in the same positions as on the old filter noting direction
of fuel flow arrow.
- Connect the fuel feed pipes (1), (6) to the filter (3) and tighten.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Inspect for fuel leaks.
6.1. | Turn ON the ignition switch for 2 seconds. |
6.2. | Turn OFF the ignition switch for 10 seconds. |
6.3. | Again, turn the ignition switch to the ON position. |
6.4. | Check for fuel leaks. |
