Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  2. Lower the steering column from the vehicle and remove the steering wheel if replacing the lock housing assembly. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  3. Remove the steering column shrouds. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers - Disassemble - Off Vehicle .

  4. Proceed with the following step to remove the lock cylinder if not replacing the lock module assembly.
  5. Remove the lock cylinder by twisting with the key fully inserted until the retainer on the lock cylinder is unseated from the retaining shelf of the housing.
  6. Refer to Electronic Column Lock Module - Disassemble - Off Vehicle when also replacing the lock module assembly.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 282727 Size: SH
  1. Install the lock module assembly, if required. Refer to Electronic Column Lock Module - Assemble - Off Vehicle .
  2. Install a new lock cylinder set by twisting with the double-sided key fully inserted until the retainer on the lock cylinder is seated to the retainer shelf of the housing.
  3. Install the shrouds. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers - Assemble - Off Vehicle .
  4. Install the steering wheel, if required, and raise the steering column to its position prior to this repair procedure. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  5. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
