Problem

Action

The column mounting bracket bolts are loose.

Tighten the bolts according to the specifications.

The support screws are loose.

Tighten the screws according to the specifications.

The tilt head pivot pins are loose.

Replace the pivot pins.

Refer to Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Disassemble - Off Vehicle and Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Assemble - Off Vehicle .

There is excessive clearance between the holes in the support or the tilt housing and the pivot pin diameter.

Replace the support, the housing, or the pivot pins.

Refer to Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Disassemble - Off Vehicle and Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Assemble - Off Vehicle ; and Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Disassemble - Off Vehicle and Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Assemble - Off Vehicle .

The spring in the centering spheres is faulty.

Replace the spring.

Refer to Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Disassemble - Off Vehicle and Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Assemble - Off Vehicle .

The upper bearing is not seating in the bearing race.

Replace the upper bearing and the bearing race.

The upper bearing inner race seat is missing.

Install the seat.

The bearing preload spring is broken.

Replace the preload spring.
