Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 39500 GM A/C Refrigerant Recovery, Recycling and Recharging System

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the old pressure relief valve.
  3. Clean the valve seat area on the rear head.

Installation Procedure

J 39400 Halogen Leak Detector

  1. Lubricate the O-ring of the new pressure relief valve with 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.
  2. Lubricate the O-ring assembly with 525  viscosity refrigerant oil.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the new pressure relief valve.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the pressure relief valve to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  6. Evacuate the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  7. Leak test the system. Refer to Leak Testing .
