  1. Attach a remote oil pressure gauge to the engine.
  2. Start the engine and run it at various RPMs while observing the gauge.

Does the oil pressure on the gauge equal the pressure shown on the instrument cluster gauge?

Repair the oil pressure problem. Refer to Oil Pressure Diagnosis and Testing in Engine Mechanical.

Has the cause of the incorrect oil pressure been repaired?

  1. Disconnect the engine oil pressure sensor connector.
  2. Connect the red lead of a J 33431-B tester to cavity A of the engine oil pressure sensor connector.
  3. Connect the other lead from the tester to ground.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  5. Adjust the tester to 0 ohms, then to 88 ohms.

Does the IP oil pressure gauge indicate the specified values?

0 psi, 80 psi
