Tools Required

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

1. Assemble the upper shroud (2).
2. Secure the upper shroud (2) using the 2 torx head screws (1).

Tighten
Tighten the 2 TORX® head screws (1) to 1.5 N·m (13 lb in).




3. Assemble the lower shroud (2).
4. Secure the lower shroud (2) using the 2 pan head tapping screws (1).

Tighten
Tighten the 2 pan head tapping screws (1) to 3.5 N·m (31 lb in).

5. Remove J 42640 from the lower shroud.
6. Remove the steering column and J 41352 from the vise.
7. Assemble the tilt lever assembly. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement - On Vehicle .
