1. Connect a remote oil pressure gauge to the engine.
2. Start the engine.
3. Run the engine at various RPMs while observing the gauge.

Does the oil pressure on the gauge equal the pressure shown on the instrument cluster gauge?

Repair the oil pressure problem. Refer to Oil Pressure Diagnosis and Testing in Engine Mechanical.

Has the cause of the incorrect oil pressure been repaired?

1. Disconnect the engine oil pressure sensor connector.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Does the instrument cluster oil pressure gauge indicate 80?

Go to Step 7

Go to Step 4

1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
2. Disconnect the instrument cluster connector.
3. Use a J 39200 DMM to measure the resistance from the instrument cluster connector, cavity 15 to ground.

Is the resistance less than the specified amount?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 6

Locate and repair the short to ground in the CKT 31 (TAN) wire between the oil pressure sensor and the instrument cluster.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

--

1. Connect the instument cluster connector.
2. Connect the red lead of a J 33431-B tester to cavity A of the engine oil pressure sensor connector.
3. Connect the other lead from the tester to ground.
4. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
5. Adjust the tester to 0 ohms, then to 88 ohms.

Does the instrument cluster oil pressure gauge indicate the specified values?

0 psi, 80 psi

Go to Step 7

Go to Step 8

Replace the engine oil pressure sensor.

Is the repair complete?
