  1. Connect a remote oil pressure gauge to the engine.
  2. Start the engine.
  3. Run the engine at various RPMs while observing the gauge.

Does the oil pressure on the gauge equal the pressure shown on the instrument cluster gauge?

Repair the oil pressure problem. Refer to Oil Pressure Diagnosis and Testing in Engine Mechanical.

Has the cause of the incorrect oil pressure been repaired?

--

System OK

  1. Disconnect the engine oil pressure sensor connector.
  2. Connect a fused jumper from the engine oil pressure sensor connector, cavity A to ground. Refer to Using Connector Test Adapters in Wiring Systems.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Does the oil pressure gauge indicate 0?

  1. Disconnect the instrument cluster connector.
  2. Connect a J 39200 DMM from cavity A of the engine oil pressure sensor connector to cavity 15 of the instrument cluster connector.

Is the resistance greater than the specified value?

1.0 ohms

Go to Step 5

Locate and repair the high resistance connection or open in CKT 31 (TAN) between the instrument cluster connector and the engine oil pressure sensor connector.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

  1. Connect the instrument cluster connector.
  2. Connect the red lead of a J 33431-B tester to cavity A of the engine oil pressure sensor connector.
  3. Connect the other lead from the tester to ground.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  5. Adjust the tester to 0 ohms, then to 88 ohms.

Does the instrument cluster oil pressure gauge indicate the specified values?

0 psi, 80 psi

Replace the engine oil pressure sensor.
