Examine the surge tank to verify that there is sufficient coolant in the cooling system.

Is sufficient coolant in the cooling system?

Go to Step 3

  1. Fill the cooling system with coolant. Refer to Coolant Description in Engine Cooling.
  2. Locate and eliminate the condition which caused the coolant loss. Refer to Loss of Coolant in Engine Cooling.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

  1. Disconnect the low coolant sensor. Refer to Coolant Sensor Description in Engine Cooling.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Does the low coolant indicator illuminate?

--

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 4

Replace the coolant level sensor. Refer to Coolant Level Sensor Replacement in Engine Cooling.

Is the repair complete?

--

System OK

  1. Disconnect the instrument cluster connector.
  2. Connect a test light from cavity 22 to cavity 25 of the instrument cluster connector. Refer to Using Connector Test Adapters in Wiring Systems.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Does the test light illuminate?

Go to Step 7

Replace the instrument cluster.

Is the repair complete?

Locate and repair the short to ground in CKT 68 (YEL/BLK) between the instrument cluster and the low coolant sensor.

Is the repair complete?

System OK
