Removal Procedure

Notice: When replacing any hydraulic components, the hydraulic system should be flushed with Dexron® III transmission fluid. This is to ensure that the hydraulic system is free of contaminants such as metal particles that may have been circulated through the system as a result of a component failure.

  1. Move the column shift lever to the PARK position and apply the manual parking brake.

  2. Object Number: 176180 Size: SH
  3. Remove the access panel on the inboard side of the component box.
  4. Remove the electrical connector from the parking brake solenoid valve.
  5. Position a drain pan to catch the fluid that leaks out. Do not reuse the old fluid.
  6. Remove the hydraulic pipes and hose from the solenoid valve (1) and the pump assembly.
  7. Remove the following components from the parking brake solenoid valve:
  8. • The mounting spacer (4)
    • The nuts (2)
    • The washers (3)
    • The bolts (5)
    • The pipe fittings
  9. Remove the parking brake solenoid valve (1).

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 176180 Size: SH
  1. Connect the hydraulic fittings to the solenoid valve (1).
  2. Install the parking brake solenoid valve (1).
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the following components to the parking brake solenoid valve (1):
  5. • The mounting spacer (4)
    • The washers (3)
    • The bolts (5)
    • The nuts (2)

    Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 13 N·m (115 lb in).

  6. Install the hydraulic pipes and hose.
  7. Tighten
Tighten the hydraulic pipe fittings to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  8. Install the electrical connector to the parking brake solenoid valve.
  9. Install the access panel on the inboard side of the component box.
  10. Tighten
Tighten the access panel fasteners to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  11. Cycle the system at least 6 times. (Turn the ignition switch on and move the shift lever from PARK to NEUTRAL.) Inspect the fluid level. Refer to Checking and Adding Park Brake Fluid .
  12. Release the manual parking brake.
