Problem

Action

Air exists in the system.

  1. Add power steering fluid to the power steering reservoir. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  2. Bleed the system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  3. Inspect the hose connectors for proper torque.

The steering gear mounting is loose.

Tighten the attaching bolts to the specified torque. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .

The steering linkage joints are worn.

Replace any loose components.

The steering gear is improperly adjusted.

Adjust the steering gear to specifications.

The front wheel bearings are worn or maladjusted.

Adjust or replace the bearings.

The steering gear is worn or damaged.

Replace the steering gear. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement .
