Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 43218 Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the switch terminals.

  3. Pull the switch outward from the steering column in order to remove it.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 43219 Size: SH
  1. Align the actuator on the switch with the holes in the shift tube.
  2. Set the parking brake.
  3. Place the gear selector in N (Neutral).
  4. Press down on the front of the switch until the tangs snap into the rectangular holes in the steering column.

  5. Connect the electrical connector.
  6. Adjust the switch by moving the gear selector to P (Park). The main housing and the housing back should ratchet, providing proper switch adjustment.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8. Check for proper switch operation.
  9. Readjust the switch if necessary by moving the housing all the way toward the low gear position. Adjust the switch by moving the gear selector to P (Park). The main housing and the housing back should ratchet, providing proper switch adjustment.
