Removal Procedure

Left Side of Vehicle

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cables.
  2. Remove the lead wires from the glow plugs (1) in cylinders 1, 3, 5 and 7.

  4. Remove the glow plugs (1) from cylinders 1, 3, 5 and 7. If the glow plug was damaged during removal, refer to Damaged Glow Plug Removal

Right Side of Vehicle.

  1. Raise the vehicle.
  2. Remove the right front tire.
  3. Remove the splash shield from the right front wheel well.
  4. Remove the lead wires from the glow plug in cylinder 2.

  6. Remove the lead wires for the glow plugs in cylinders 4 and 6 at the harness connectors.
  7. Remove the glow plugs from cylinders 2, 4, and 6. If the glow plug was damaged during the removal procedure, refer to Damaged Glow Plug Removal .
  8. Disconnect the lead wire at the glow plug from cylinder 8.
  9. Remove the glow plug from cylinder 8. If the glow plug was damaged during the removal procedure, refer to Damaged Glow Plug Removal .

Installation Procedure

Right Side of Vehicle

  1. Install the glow plug into cylinder 8.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the glow plugs to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Connect the lead wire to the cylinder 8 glow plug.
  4. Install the glow plugs into cylinders 2, 4, and 6 by reaching through the right front wheel well.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the glow plugs to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  6. Install the lead wire to glow plug 6.

  7. Object Number: 362187  Size: SH
  8. Connect the wires for the glow plugs in cylinders 4 and 6 to the connectors at the wire harness.
  9. Install the lead wire for the cylinder 2 glow plug.
  10. Install the splash shield in the right front wheel well.
  11. Inspect the wire routing, ensuring that the lead wires are not rubbing against the exhaust manifold or any part that may harm the wire insulation.
  12. Install the right front tire.

Left Side of Vehicle

  1. Install the glow plugs.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the glow plugs to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  3. Install the lead wires to the glow plugs.
  4. Inspect the wire routing, ensuring that the lead wires are not rubbing against the exhaust manifold or any part that may harm the wire insulation.
  5. Connect the lead wires to the glow plugs.
  6. Connect the negative battery cables.
