RADIO IGNITION NOISE IN REAR SPEAKERS

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1987-88 "L" CARS

Condition: Some comments have been received about ignition noise being heard through the rear speakers on 1987-88 "L" cars.

Cause: Electrical noise is being transmitted between the Direct Ignition System (DIS) wires and the rear speaker wires in the I/P harness.

Repair: Install a separate jumper harness, P/N 12077192, for the rear speakers. Route the harness as shown in the Illustration diagram.

Procedure:

1. Remove glove box, radio trim bezel and radio.

2. Install rear speaker jumper harness. (Route harness above black I/P pad so it won't rattle on glove box).

3. Re-install radio trim bezel and glove box.

The original harness connectors should be taped or tucked back into the I/P.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
