CONVERTIBLE TOP NUMBER 5 BOW WEATHERSTRIP LOOSE

MODEL AND YEAR: 1986-87 CORVETTE CONVERTIBLE

Comments have been reported that on some Corvette convertibles, the number 5 bow weatherstrip pulls loose from the bow at the front ends. Effective with start of 1987 production, the source used an adhesive which eliminated this problem on 1987 vehicles.

Field repairs can be accomplished by gluing the weatherstrip ends down with 3M weatherstrip adhesive, P/N 08011, or P/N 12345096-7 weatherstrip adhesive. (See illustration). Before applying adhesive wipe the weatherstrip with alcohol or all purpose adhesive cleaner to remove any mold release compound. Care should be taken to make sure the adhesive is applied all the way to the extreme forward ends of the weatherstrip. Also, be sure the plastic nails are installed properly. If the weatherstrip is damaged, it will have to be replaced.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
