NEW CLEARCOAT (POLISH/CLEANING RECOMMENDATIONS)

SUBJECT: NEW CLEARCOAT (POLISH/CLEANING RECOMMENDATIONS)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1993 CHEVROLET CORVETTE 'Y' MODEL

APPLICATION:

1993 CORVETTE

Starting in April, 1993, all Corvette models will use a new two component clearcoat.

This new clearcoat is significantly more resistant to environmental damage, and offers improved gloss retention. HOWEVER, while the new clearcoat is superior to previous materials, it may take up to 30 days to achieve ultimate hardness and mar resistance.

During this early period, the use of "aggressive" (brush type) automatic car wash equipment and polishing of the exterior surface prior to customer delivery should be avoided.

THE FINISH SHOULD NOT REQUIRE ANY POLISHING prior to delivery to the customer, however, if the finish does need polishing, it is important to follow the recommendations below:

0 It's important that a "Iess is best" approach be taken if polishing is required (only do the minimum required to correct the damage).

0 Only the correct materials or their equivalents should be used (See Chart).

0 The correct power tool equipment and speeds should be observed (final process step should include an orbital type polisher with speeds of 1,500 to 2,000 R.P.M.).
