Tools Required

J 41352 Modular Column Holding Fixture

1. Secure the steering column to J 41352 .
2. Place the steering column with J 41352 into the vise.
3. Inspect the steering shaft assembly for accidental damage. Refer to Steering Column Accident Damage Inspection - Off Vehicle .



4. Remove the tilt lever assembly. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement - On Vehicle .
5. Remove the two pan head tapping screws (1) from the lower shroud (2).



6. Perform the following steps to remove the lower shroud:

6.1.	Tilt the shroud down.

6.2.	Slide the lower shroud back to disengage from the upper shroud.




7. Remove the two torx head screws (2) from the upper shroud (1).
8. Remove the upper shroud (1).

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

1. Install the upper shroud.
2. Secure the upper shroud (1) with two torx head screws (2).

Tighten
Tighten the screws to 1.4 N·m (12 lb in).




3. Perform the following steps to install the lower shroud:

3.1.	Check that the slots on the lower shroud engage with the tabs on the upper shroud.

3.2.	Tilt the lower shroud up and snap the shrouds together.




4. Install the two pan head tapping screws (1) to the lower shroud (2).

Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2.8-4.0 N·m (25-35 lb in).

5. Install the tilt lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement - On Vehicle .



6. Disconnect the steering column and J 41352 from the vise.
7. Remove the steering column from J 41352 .
