Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Assemble - Off Vehicle With Sensor Non-Telescoping Column
Important: Replace the steering column support assembly if the steering column
support assembly has been staked 3 times.
- Install the steering column support assembly (1) to the steering
column jacket assembly (3).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the 4 TORX®
head screws (2).
Tighten
Tighten the 4 TORX® head screws to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

bearing assembly (1) to the steering shaft assembly.
Important: The steering shaft assembly must be rotated to the 12 o'clock
position.
- Install the high resolution steering wheel position sensor assembly (1)
to the steering shaft assembly in the following manner:
10.1. | Rotate the center of the high resolution steering wheel position
sensor assembly (1) until the pin slides into the locating hole. It
may take up to 5 revolutions. |
10.2. | Push the high resolution steering wheel position sensor assembly (1)
onto the steering shaft assembly until the sensor locating finger falls into
the slot on the steering shaft assembly. |
