Power Seat Does Not Move Forward/Rearward (LH and RH)

DEFINITION: Power seat does not function in either the forward or the rearward direction. Either driver's side or passenger's side seat.

  1. Disconnect the LH or RH seat adjuster switch connector.
  2. Connect a jumper wire from the seat adjuster switch connector terminal 13 to ground.

Does the seat move in the rearward direction?

--

Go to Step 3

Connect the jumper wire from the LH or RH seat adjuster switch connector terminal 14 to ground.

Does the seat move in the forward direction?

--

Go to Step 4

Replace the RH or LH seat adjuster switch. Refer to Power Seat Switch Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

Go to Power Seats System Check

  1. Disconnect the RH or LH seat relay center connector C1.
  2. Use a DMM to measure CKT 617 for continuity between the seat relay center connector C1 terminal 15 and the seat adjuster switch connector terminal 13.

Is CKT 617 continuous between these two connectors?

Locate and repair an open or a high resistance in CKT 617.

Is the repair complete?

--

  1. Disconnect the RH or LH seat relay center connector C1.
  2. Use a DMM to measure CKT 613 for continuity between the seat relay center connector C1 terminal 2 and the seat adjuster switch connector terminal 14.

Is CKT 613 continuous between these two connectors?

Locate and repair an open or a high resistance in CKT 613.

Is the repair complete?

--

  1. Disconnect the RH or LH seat relay center connector C2 and C3.
  2. Using two jumper wires, perform the following test:
  3. • Connect a jumper wire between battery power and the seat relay center connector C2 terminal D.
    • Connect a second jumper wire between ground and the seat relay center connector C3 terminal B.
  4. Now reverse the jumper wires as follows:
  5. • Connect the jumper wire between battery power and the seat relay center connector C3 terminal B.
    • Connect the second jumper wire between ground and the seat relay center connector C2 terminal D.

Does the horizontal seat motor operate in both directions during each of these conditions?

  1. Disconnect the RH or LH lower seat motor connector C1.
  2. Use a DMM to measure CKT 284 for continuity between the seat relay center connector C3 terminal B and the seat motor connector C1 terminal B.

Is CKT 284 continuous between these two connectors?

Replace the RH or LH seat relay center.

Is the repair complete?

Locate and repair an open or a high resistance in CKT 284.

Is the repair complete?

Use a DMM to measure CKT 285 for continuity between the seat relay center connector C2 terminal D and the seat motor connector C1 terminal A.

Is CKT 285 continuous between these two connectors?

Go to Step 14

Locate and repair an open or a high resistance in CKT 285.

Is the repair complete?

--

Go to Power Seats System Check

Check carefully for any binding of the horizontal seat motor or linkage. If OK, replace the RH or LH horizontal seat motor. Refer to Front Seat Adjuster Motor Replacement .
