  1. Verify the customer's complaint.
  2. Identify the concern.

Is the vehicle equipped with aftermarket items such as a radar detector, cellular telephone or 2-way radio?

Remove each component one at a time and notice if the noises go away when a component has been removed.

Has the concern been identified with a component that has been removed?

  1. Verify that the installation procedures for each aftermarket item conforms to the auto manufacturer's installation guidelines.
  2. Properly install each item if the item does not conform to the auto manufacturer's installation guidelines.

Has the original concern been corrected?

  1. Gather as much information on the concern as possible.
  2. Check for related service bulletins which may deal with repairing this concern.

  1. Check the integrity of the ignition and charging system.
  2. Verify if the noises are there with the engine running, not running, or if the noises are intermittent or constant.

  1. Inspect all of the associated circuitry for the ignition and charging components.
  2. Inspect the grounds, wiring and the harness connectors for possible electro magnetic interference.

Is there a concern with any of the grounds, wiring or the harness connectors?

Repair the suspected ground, wire or harness connector.

Has the original concern been resolved?
