Is the tape player inoperative?

  1. Inspect and clean moving parts and tape head.
  2. Use a known good clean cassette.
  3. Insert cassette and press Play.

Does the cassette tape play OK?

Perform the motor speed test with the diagnostic test tape from J 39916.

Is the motor speed OK?

Check the tape player for an obstruction through the tape door.

Is there an obstruction?

  1. Remove the obstruction (Caution improper removal may damage tape player).
  2. Inspect and clean all moving parts and tape head.
  3. Use the cleaning cassette.
  4. Use the diagnostic test tape from J 39916.

Does the test tape operate?
