Removal Procedure
- Disable the SIR system.
Refer to
Disabling the SIR System
in SIR.
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect
the negative battery cable.
- Remove the console. Refer to
Console Replacement
.
- Remove the IP accessory trim plate. Refer to
Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement
.
- Remove the driver knee bolster trim panel. Refer to
Driver Knee Bolster Panel Replacement
.
- Remove the ignition switch housing bracket and reposition the
ignition switch. Refer to
Ignition Switch Housing Bracket Replacement
.
- Release the ignition switch and hazard warning switch wiring harness
retainers from the driver knee bolster bracket.
Important: The following step must be performed to assure proper trim fits during
installation.
- Mark the location of the driver knee bolster bracket. Refer to
Instrument Panel Disassembly Precautions
.
- Remove the driver knee bolster bracket retaining screws.
- Remove the driver knee bolster bracket.
- Remove the LH lower closeout
panel. Refer to
Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement
.
- Tilt the steering wheel to the lowest position.
- Remove the steering column upper and lower nuts retaining the
steering column to the steering column bracket, then carefully rest the steering
column on the IP lower support beam. Refer to Steering
Column Replacement
in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.
- Remove the LH windshield side garnish molding. Refer to Windshield Side Garnish Molding
in Stationary Windows.
- Remove the IP upper trim pad. Refer to
Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement
.
- Remove the LH side window defogger outlet duct. Refer to Defogger Outlet Duct Replacement - Side Window, LH
in
HVAC - Manual, or Defogger Outlet Duct
Replacement - Side Window, LH
in HVAC - Automatic.
- Remove the instrument panel cluster. Refer to
Instrument Cluster Replacement
.
- Disconnect the Bose® module electrical/audio connector, if
equipped.
Important: The Bose® module is only held in place by retaining bolts. Be sure
to support the module upon removal.
- Remove the bolts mounting the Bose® module to the steering column
bracket, if equipped.
- Remove the Bose® module, if equipped.
Important: The following step must be performed to assure proper trim fits during
installation.
- Mark the location of the driver knee bolster outer bracket. Refer to
Instrument Panel Disassembly Precautions
.
- Remove the driver knee
bolster outer bracket retaining screws.
- Remove the driver knee bolster outer bracket.
- Remove the accelerator
pedal assembly (with accelerator pedal position sensor). Refer to Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor Replacement
in Engine Controls
- 5.7 L.
- Disconnect the brake master cylinder push rod from the brake pedal.
- Remove the brake booster mounting nuts.
- Remove the cruise control
release switch bracket mounting bolts (M/T).
- Reposition the cruise control release switch and bracket (M/T).
- Disconnect the clutch
master cylinder push rod from the clutch pedal (M/T).
- Remove the nuts mounting
the clutch pedal bracket to the steering column bracket (M/T).
- Remove the clutch pedal bracket stud plate (M/T).
Important: The following step must be performed to assure proper trim fits during
installation.
- Mark the location of the steering column bracket. Refer to
Instrument Panel Disassembly Precautions
.
- Remove the bolts mounting the steering column bracket to the IP
lower support beam.
- Remove the bolts mounting
the steering column bracket to the IP upper support beam.
- Remove the steering column bracket.
Installation Procedure
- Install the steering column
bracket into position as marked prior to removal.
- Install the steering column bracket to IP upper support beam bolts.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the steering
column bracket to IP lower support beam bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the steering column bracket mounting bolts to 10 N·m
(89 lb in).
- Install the clutch pedal
bracket stud plate (M/T).
- Install the clutch pedal bracket stud plate nuts (M/T).
Tighten
Tighten the clutch pedal bracket mounting nuts to 27 N·m
(20 lb ft).
- Connect the clutch master
cylinder push rod to the clutch pedal (M/T).
- Position the cruise control
release switch and bracket to the steering column bracket.
- Install the cruise control release switch bracket bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the cruise control release switch bracket bolts to 12 N·m
(106 lb in).
- Install the brake booster
nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the brake booster nuts to 29 N·m (21 lb ft).
- Connect the brake master cylinder push rod to the brake pedal.
- Install the accelerator pedal assembly (with accelerator pedal
position sensor). Refer to Accelerator Pedal Position (APP)
Sensor Replacement
in Engine Controls - 5.7 L .
- Install the driver knee
bolster outer bracket into position as marked prior to removal.
- Install the driver knee bolster outer bracket retaining screws.
Tighten
Tighten the driver knee bolster outer bracket retaining screws to 1.9 N·m
(17 lb in).
- Position the Bose®
module, if equipped, to the steering column bracket.
- Install the Bose® module retaining bolts, if equipped.
Tighten
Tighten the Bose® module retaining bolts to 2.5 N·m
(22 lb in).
- Connect the Bose®
module electrical/audio connector, if equipped.
- Install the instrument panel cluster. Refer to
Instrument Cluster Replacement
.
- Install the LH side window defogger outlet duct. Refer to Defogger Outlet Duct Replacement - Side Window, LH
in
HVAC - Manual, or Defogger Outlet Duct
Replacement - Side Window, LH
in HVAC - Automatic.
- Install the IP upper trim pad. Refer to
Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement
.
- Install the LH windshield side garnish molding. Refer to Windshield Side Garnish Molding
in Stationary
Windows.
- Install the steering column to the steering column bracket. Refer
to Steering Column Replacement
in Steering Wheel
and Column - Tilt.
- Install the driver knee
bolster bracket into position as marked prior to removal.
- Install the screws which retain the driver knee bolster bracket
to the steering column bracket.
Tighten
Tighten the driver knee bolster bracket retaining screws to 1.9 N·m
(17 lb in).
- Secure the ignition switch and hazard warning switch wiring harness
retainers to the driver knee bolster bracket.
- Install the ignition switch housing bracket. Refer to
Ignition Switch Housing Bracket Replacement
.
- Install the driver knee bolster trim panel. Refer to
Driver Knee Bolster Panel Replacement
.
- Install the IP accessory trim plate. Refer to
Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement
.
- Install the console. Refer to
Console Replacement
.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
Tighten
Tighten the negative battery cable bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
- Program the transmitters. Refer to Transmitter
Programming/Synchronization
in Keyless Entry.
- Enable the SIR system. Refer to
Enabling the SIR System
in SIR.
