The instrument cluster head-up display (HUD) system projects
frequently used driver information off the windshield and is viewed near the
front of the vehicle from the driver's seat. The information may be displayed
in English or Metric units by selecting the E/M button. There are five different
HUD display modes. Press and hold the PAGE button on the LH switch assembly
to select any of the following display modes:
While a minor gage is displayed, a quick tap of the PAGE button will
allow you to select one of the following minor gage display modes:
There are four major components to the HUD system.
• | Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) |
• | Windshield (labeled SHADED HUD lower right side) |
The HUD image can be moved up or down to center it to your seated height
by pressing the DISPLAY UP or DOWN button. The HUD system also contains a
forward facing ambient light sensor which allows the HUD display image to
adapt to brightness levels of the environment. The ambient light sensor is
integrated within the HUD unit and is not serviced separately. When ambient
light levels are low (at night), the HUD image brightness can be manually
adjusted by rotating the dimmer switch located on the LH switch assembly.
The HUD image can be completely turned OFF by rotating the dimmer switch in
the full clockwise position. The HUD system will only display the information
that was sent by the IPC and cannot determine if the information is valid.
The HUD system performs a self test when the ignition is first turned ON.
The HUD system will illuminate all segments of display for 3.5 seconds.
After the displays are projected for 3.5 seconds, the HUD system will
begin normal operation. Diagnosis of the HUD system must always begin with
verifying proper IPC operation prior to diagnosing any HUD malfunctions.
