PASS-Key® Functional State

(Ignition ON)

Description

Possible Malfunctions

Use a scan tool to display the PASS-Key® state. Turn ON the ignition switch, and select BCM input data 1 display (PASS-Key® State).

Normal Decision

    • The PASS-Key® system cannot determine the PASS-Key® resistance value.
    • The PASS-Key® resistance value does not match any one of the 15 PASS-Key® resistance values.
    • The SECURITY indicator will be ON solid.

Check the PASS-Key® detection circuit for any of the following conditions:

    • Short to ground
    • Short to voltage
    • Open circuit
    • Check for an open or shorted PASS-Key® resistor pellet.

Learn Pass-Key®

    • This state can only be displayed when a service replacement BCM is first installed. The BCM will store the first PASS-Key® resistance value it detects.
    • The SECURITY indicator will be ON solid.

Check for current BCM DTC B2735

Tamper

    • The PASS-Key® system has detected one of 15 valid but incorrect PASS-Key® resistance values. (Must wait 3 minute time-out period.)
    • The SECURITY indicator will be ON flashing.

Check for an incorrect or damaged PASS-Key® resistor pellet.

Monitor Pass-Key®

The PASS-Key® system has detected a valid PASS-Key® resistance value.

System OK

Fail Enable

    • The PASS-Key® system first detected a correct PASS-Key® resistance value and then detects an incorrect value before the ignition was cycled.
    • The SECURITY indicator will be ON solid.

Check the PASS-Key® detection circuit for any of the following conditions:

    • Short to ground
    • Short to voltage
    • Open circuit

Fail Enable Decision

    • This state is displayed after the Fail Enable State when the ignition is cycled.
    • The SECURITY indicator will be ON solid.
    • Vehicle will crank OK.

Check the PASS-Key® detection circuit for any of the following conditions:
