Rattle from Shift Lever

Symptom

Rattle from the manual shift lever at 3600 RPM.

Possible Cause

Internal parts of the shift lever rattle.

Diagnosis

Road test at 3600 RPM and listen for the rattle.

Corrective Action

  1. Apply pressure to the shift lever and listen for the noise to change.
  2. Replace the shift lever assembly.

Itch from the Center of the Accessory Trim Panel


Object Number: 299067  Size: SH

Problem

Itching noise from the center of the accessory trim panel.

Possible Cause

The accessory trim panel is rubbing on the console carrier.

Diagnosis

Road test on a surface that twists the body or push on the console while listening for itch.

Corrective Action

  1. Remove the floor center console. Refer to Console Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
  2. Add small pieces of black flocked material on the console carrier below the rear edge of the trim panel.
  3. Also add a piece of black flocked material on the carrier below the rear edge of the traction control switch.
  4. Reinstall the console. Refer to Console Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.

Steering Column Moan


Object Number: 659584  Size: SH

Symptom

Moan or rubbing noise from the steering column after driving for an extended period of time in hot weather. This can normally feel like a slight vibration at the bottom of the column in the engine compartment.

Possible Cause

Grease breakdown between plastic inserts.

Diagnosis

Road test the vehicle in hot weather for an extended period of time. Be careful not to mistake the noise for a steering column shroud noise.

Corrective Action

Replace the steering shaft seal.
