Fuel Filler Door Release Inoperative

DEFINITION: The fuel tank filler door lock actuator solenoid will not release.

  1. Disconnect the fuel tank filler door lock release switch connector.
  2. Connect a DMM between terminal D of the fuel tank filler door lock release switch connector and ground.
  3. Measure the available voltage at terminal D of the fuel tank filler door lock release switch connector.

Is the voltage within the specified values?

10.0-14.0V

Go to Step 9

Check the F/TNKDR MiniFuse® #32 for an open circuit.

Is the fuse open?

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 6

Replace the F/TNKDR MiniFuse® #32.

Does the F/TNKDR MiniFuse® #32 immediately open when installed?

Repair a short to ground in CKT 2840.

Is the repair complete?

Repair the open in CKT 2840.

  1. Disconnect the fuel tank filler door lock actuator solenoid.
  2. Reconnect the fuel tank filler door lock release switch connector.
  3. Depress the fuel tank filler door lock release button.

Does the F/TNKDR MiniFuse® #32 immediately open when the button is depressed?

Repair a short to ground in CKT 79.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Disconnect the fuel tank filler door lock release switch connector.
  2. Connect a DMM between terminal D and terminal E of the fuel tank filler door lock release switch.
  3. Depress the fuel tank filler door lock release button.

Is continuity present across the fuel tank filler door lock release switch when the button is depressed?

  1. Reconnect the fuel tank filler door lock release switch connector.
  2. Disconnect the fuel tank filler door lock actuator solenoid connector.
  3. Connect a DMM between the fuel tank filler door lock actuator solenoid connector terminal A and ground.
  4. Depress the fuel tank filler door lock release button.

Is the voltage within the specified values?

10.0-14.0V

Repair the open in CKT 79.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Connect a DMM between terminal B of the fuel tank filler door lock actuator solenoid connector and ground.
  2. Measure CKT 150 for continuity to G302.

Is CKT 150 continuous to ground?

--

Go to Step 14

Repair the open in CKT 150 from the fuel tank filler door lock actuator solenoid connector to G302.

Is the repair complete?

--

Go to Fuel Filler Door Release System Check

  1. Carefully inspect and repair any binding concerns with the gas door.
  2. If OK, replace the fuel tank filler door lock actuator solenoid.
