Removal Procedure

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disconnect the intake air tempeture (IAT) sensor connector.
  3. Disconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor connector.

  5. Remove the air intake duct/cleaner assembly.
  6. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement - Accessory in Engine Mechanical.
  7. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .

  8. Object Number: 179301  Size: SH
  9. Remove the radiator inlet and outlet hose clamps from the water pump.
  10. Remove the radiator inlet and outlet hoses from the water pump.

  12. Remove the heater hose clamps from the water pump.
  13. Remove the heater hoses from the water pump.

  14. Object Number: 309751  Size: SH
  15. Remove the six water pump retaining bolts from the engine block.
  16. Remove the water pump.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 309751  Size: SH
  1. Clean the water pump gasket surfaces.
  2. Install new water pump gaskets with the tabs up.
  3. Install the water pump to the engine block.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the water pump bolts into the engine block.
  6. Tighten

    1. Tighten the water pump bolts to (first pass) 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
    2. Tighten the water pump bolts to (final pass) 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  7. Install the heater hoses to the water pump.
  8. Install the heater hose clamps to the water pump.

  9. Object Number: 179301  Size: SH
  10. Install the radiator inlet and outlet hoses to the water pump.
  11. Install the radiator inlet and outlet radiator hose clamps to the water pump.
  12. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  13. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement - Accessory in Engine Mechanical.

  14. Object Number: 179304  Size: SH
  15. Install the air intake duct/cleaner assembly.

  16. Object Number: 74086  Size: SH
  17. Connect the MAF sensor connector.
  18. Connect the IAT sensor connector.
  19. Connect the negative battery cable.
  20. Tighten
    Tighten the negative battery cable bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  21. Program the Transmitters. Refer to Transmitter Programming/Synchronization in Keyless Entry.
  22. Start the engine.
  23. Inspect the water pump for leaks.
