  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool, attempt to establish communications with the IPC.

Does the scan tool communicate with the IPC?

With a scan tool, select IPC special functions and command a sweep test (minimum to maximum) on the voltage gauge.

Does the scan tool control the voltage gauge?

Go to Step 4

With a scan tool, observe the Ignition 1 parameter in the IPC data list.

Does the scan tool indicate that the Ignition 1 parameter is within the specified range?

8.0-16.0 V

Go to Step 5

With a scan tool, observe the Ignition 1 parameter in the IPC data list and the voltage gauge display on the IPC.

Does the scan tool display correspond with the voltage gauge display within the specified value?

0.5 V

System OK

Go to Step 7

Test the ignition positive voltage circuit of the IPC for a short to ground or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs

Did you find and correct the condition?

With a scan tool, select IPC special functions and re-calibrate the voltage gauge.

Did you re-calibrate the voltage gauge successfully?

Replace the IPC assembly. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
