GM Service Manual Online
For 1990-2009 cars only

The brake system uses a signal red BRAKE warning lamp located in the instrument panel. When the ignition switch is in the START position, the BRAKE warning lamp should come on. It should go off when the ignition switch returns to the RUN position. The following conditions will activate the BRAKE warning lamp:

    • When the parking brake is applied. The lamp should be on when the parking brake is applied and the ignition switch is in ON.
    • When the master cylinder fluid reservoir is low. The ABS lamp will also illuminate until the reservoir is filled to the proper level.

There are two status indicator lamps used with the ABS/TCS system. They are both amber and are located in the instrument panel.

    • ABS--indicates a condition present in the Antilock Brake System which requires service.
    • TCS--indicates the Traction Control System has been turned off, or a condition is present in the TCS which requires service or the ABS is currently in a wheel-lock control condition.
